First, there was dilution
Have you noticed that, lately, old words have had new meanings thrust upon them?
This is a dilution of meaning. It causes confusion, and makes it more difficult to speak and be understood.
Whether or not you’ve read 1984 recently (if you haven’t, you should), it’s not hard to see that this is the first step in a dimming and dumbing down of language.
It is the first step towards the destruction of language.
Words are Thought
The less true words, the more narrow thought becomes. The less ability for thought, the less able anyone is to understand and to think and to express themselves.
The dumber people are, the least able to express themselves they are, the more tractable and controllable they are.
Eventually, the destruction of language results in unconsciousness, or the turning of logical humans into thoughtless animals.
Fight against this
I could philosophize on this for a much longer post but the main point I want to make is please, my friend, my fellow logical thinking human: fight against this.
“Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage against the dying of the light.”
The death of language, that which is our only tool of logic and growth, is worth raging against.
Be courageous with your rage.
